✨ About the Uppity Awards

The Uppity Awards, created by The Uptown Standard Newspaper, were founded to recognize individuals and organizations that have made a direct and lasting impact on the lives of residents in the Uptown section of Philadelphia — including Mount Airy, Germantown, West Oak Lane, East Oak Lane, Cedarbrook, East Germantown, Fern Rock, and Ogontz.

Since its inception, the Uppity Awards have celebrated community leadership, entrepreneurship, creativity, and cultural excellence, honoring those who uplift and inspire Philadelphia’s neighborhoods.

In 2022, the event expanded through a partnership with Urban Xpressions, a legendary Philadelphia hip-hop brand and television show, merging community achievement with the city’s entertainment and cultural legacy.

In 2024, the celebration grew again with the addition of the Storm of Fashion Awards, spotlighting excellence in Philadelphia’s fashion, beauty, and creative industries.

And in 2025, the Uppity Awards proudly expanded citywide through The Broad & Market Standard Newspaper, extending recognition to changemakers throughout West Philadelphia, North Philadelphia, and South Philadelphia.

Today, the Uppity Awards stand as a symbol of Uptown pride and Philadelphia excellence — a red-carpet celebration of those who lead, create, and move the city forward.

Honoring icons in hip-hop, media, and entertainment who have made a lasting cultural and community impact.

Presented to individuals and organizations making measurable, positive change across Philadelphia’s neighborhoods.

🕊️ Stephen Kinsey Leadership Award

Celebrating civic and community leaders whose service exemplifies commitment, integrity, and leadership.
