Philadelphia, PA — On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office paid tribute to one of its most beloved officers with a heartfelt ceremony renaming its 6th Floor Training Room in honor of the late Sergeant Christopher Fitzgerald. The dedication, led by Sheriff Rochelle Bilal, recognized Sergeant Fitzgerald’s lasting legacy within the department and the broader law enforcement community.
Sergeant Fitzgerald, who began his career with the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office six years to the day of the ceremony, was remembered not only for his professionalism but also for his compassion and commitment to the community. He tragically lost his life in the line of duty on February 18, 2023.
“Six years ago today, Sergeant Christopher Fitzgerald began his career at the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Bilal. “Sergeant Fitzgerald introduced the idea of free food giveaways when the pandemic first struck our communities. His character and demeanor in the workplace showed he was an outstanding officer and friend. Under my leadership, the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office will continue to honor his memory and remain committed to keeping his spirit alive for all those in law enforcement and public service.”
The renaming ceremony drew colleagues, family, and community members who gathered to reflect on the impact Sergeant Fitzgerald made both inside and outside the department. As the Sheriff’s Office continues to train future officers in the newly named room, Sergeant Fitzgerald’s values of service, integrity, and compassion will live on as guiding principles.
