Track Clash at Morgan State: Horton-Mims Outduels Wilson in Epic 400m Showdown

In one of the most anticipated high school 400m matchups of the year, Jayden Horton-Mims, formerly of Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia), faced off against Bullis School’s freshman phenom Quincy Wilson at the Morgan State Invitational—and the result was a race for the ages.

Horton-Mims, now running unattached, stormed down the homestretch in a personal-best 45.20 seconds, edging out Wilson who finished close behind in 45.24. The performance was nothing short of electric, with both athletes pushing each other to national-leading marks.

For Horton-Mims, the win is a statement. After running 45.47 earlier this season in an Olympic Development race, he’s proven his ability to compete with not just top high schoolers—but elite collegiate and professional athletes. The Morgan State victory now places him squarely among the nation’s fastest 400m runners for 2025.

When asked Mims for a quote about the race, his anaser was simple “I bet they won’t ever doubt me again.”

Wilson has also been rewriting the record books. His 45.06 relay split at the Penn Relays turned heads and confirmed his potential as a future U.S. sprint star. Though he came up just short this time, his poise and speed at such a young age continue to captivate the track world.

This wasn’t just a race—it was a glimpse into the future of American sprinting. As the outdoor season heats up, expect to see more fireworks from both runners as they chase state titles, national championships, and maybe even historic times.
