In a thrilling rematch of last year’s championship, Imhotep Charter secured a narrow 58-54 victory over Father Judge in the Philadelphia Boys Basketball City Championship at La Salle University on Friday night. This win marks Imhotep’s second consecutive city title, solidifying their dominance in the local high school basketball scene.

The anticipation was palpable as the Panthers and the Crusaders faced off once again. Father Judge, fresh off their first Philadelphia Catholic League (PCL) championship since 1998, was eager to avenge last year’s 62-57 loss to Imhotep in the city finals. Imhotep, on the other hand, aimed to defend their title and continue their reign.

The contest was a showcase of high-caliber basketball, with both teams displaying exceptional skill and determination. The first half was tightly contested, featuring multiple lead changes and defensive stands. Imhotep managed to carve out a slim advantage by halftime, leading 29-27.

In the second half, the intensity escalated. Father Judge’s standout guard, Kevair Kennedy, who played a pivotal role in their PCL championship victory, delivered crucial points to keep the Crusaders within reach. However, Imhotep’s cohesive team play and strategic execution allowed them to maintain their lead.

As the clock wound down, Father Judge made a final push, narrowing the gap to just two points. Despite their efforts, Imhotep’s defense held firm, and clutch free throws in the closing moments sealed the 58-54 victory.
