The Uppity Awards started by the Uptown Standard Newspaper to recognize individuals and
organizations that have made a direct impact in the lives of residents in the Uptown section of
Philadelphia which includes the neighborhoods of: Mount Airy, Germantown, West Oak Lane, East Oak Lane, Cedarbrook, East Germantown, Fern Rock, and Ogontz.
This year’s Uppity Awards will take place on October 1, 2022, at the Commodore Barry Club in Mt. Airy.
Online ticket sales for All Access Passes (includes: Valet Parking, Hors d’Oeuvres in Catering, and Premium seating) will go on sale June 1st, 2022.
General Admissions tickets will go one sale for the first time at the Uptown Memorial Cookout.
Nominations will open on June 1st, 2022 for the following categories:

- F.A.M.E (Fashion, Arts, Music, and Entertainment)
- Change Maker
- Non Profit
- Coach
- Teacher
- Entrepreneur
Rules: We accept nominations for these awards, and our Advisory Committee votes on the winners.
Sean Crump People’s Choice Awards
- People’s Choice– We do not accept nominations for this award. The nominees are selected from the nominee list from the Uppity Awards categories.
- Best Barber
- Best Hair Stylist
- Best of Uptown– We accept nominations. And the top 3-5 vote getters are chosen from each category below;
- Restaurant
- Salon
- Barber Shop
Rules: The winner is chosen by online voting for these awards.
